another update ....wow aren't you lot lucky ?

Hello friends :)

heres some bits I missed in the megapost update last week ........

1. The Mighty Wire

Well the best season in my living memory for the wire ended with another challenge cup win and finishing 3rd in regular season

and due to finances this year ....didn't get to watch a single game live ..... sometimes life sucks

2.  Garage build update

one week to the deadline remains and still we have heard nothing from the scarlet pimpernel (otherwise known as our builder) ... the court and the trading standards department await him ...and should he miss this deadline ..his full name and business contact details will be printed on this blog to prevent others falling into his trap......

MOVIE REVIEW ADDITIONS ..............

Avatar (and Directors Cut)

Well .... this movie was about what I expected from all the hype surrounding it ... stunning visuals, stunning lack of plot and over-long... The Directors cut of the movie.. weighing in at 20 minutes LONGER is ...... how it should have been really, the additional footage expands the story and gives more background, making it a better movie all round

7/10 (original movie - mostly for the visuals)
9/10 (directors cut - the movie it should have been originally)

Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time

I got this out of curiousity, yeah yeah another video game into movie adaptation.. and its got Jake "boring" Gyllenhall in the lead ... however I was pleasantly suprised, the film romps along at a nice pace, the acting is passable and about the level you would expect from this kind of movie, and Gemma Arterton is gorgeous as usual, Ben Kingsley as the baddie and Alfred Molina as the comic relief, it would have taken a spectacularly bad director to mess up that formula, fortunately ..he didn't .... a nice way to take out your brain and enjoy a couple of hours

8/10

 and finally .....Me

Well the Blood tests have come back .... and I'm as healthy as a horse ...blood wise (shock horror) .... we still await the X-rays to get to the "bottom" of the problem with my back ... will update you all when I know more :)

cheers everyone

JD :)

This is serious .....and dont call him Shirley

MEGAPOST update

Gee ..its been a while since I updated this .. i always was a lazy diarist, time to get you all caught up on the comings and goings in my little world .......

1.  Wingnut and University

Remember this little road trip to the left .. well James decided to go to Solent Uni so the whole exercise wasn't a waste, only  trouble was ... moving in day clashed with the day of the Britbowl final, which left me in a dilema because of prior commitments to the Titans senior team .... read on for more

 2. Titans Seniors and Britbowl

Having breezed through the regular season 10 -0 the Titan seniors battled through the playoffs to make the Division 2 final where they would face the unbeaten London Olympians to decide the best Division 2 team in the country ... In the end the London team proved too strong and the Titans went down
35 -13 (7-7 H/T) ..

but a good time was had by all and Division 1 football beckons next season ... heres the team from that fatefull day .....

3. Titans Youth

A season that started with a bang ended with a whimper .. we finished dead last in our division with only the one win to show for our efforts ... BUT it was a solid start and we now have a core of experienced players to draw on for the 2011 season ...
one can only hope and work hard ... but I really want us to beat the scum next season ....

4. The Great Garage build

I am begining to believe that the Olympic stadium will be finished before this f**king thing ...

The final ultimatum letter was posted to the builder in mid November and is reprinted below .....

FINAL REQUEST FOR YOU TO COMPLETE THE JOB

Dear Sir,

Despite Several attempts to contact you by phone in the last 2 weeks you appear now to be no longer taking my calls or doing me the courtesy of ringing me back when you see I have rung you,
this leaves me with only this written option and this letter serves as stage 2 of the recommended procedure as outlined in the Supply of Goods and Services Act (1982), the letter sent to you in May of this year being the first stage of this process.

I require you to complete this build which you have been paid in full to do no later than the first week of December 2010, failure to do this or provide a satisfactory reason why this cannot be accomplished will constitute an immediate breach of contract and leave me no option but to pursue the matter through the courts.

Make no mistake about this FINAL DEADLINE, should you fail to respond to this letter and complete the build within this timescale, then I WILL be pursuing the matter legally and you will be reported to the Trading Standards Authority

Time is of the essence on this, it has gone on long enough, it is now ONE YEAR since you agreed to do this job and I have been more than patient with you on this matter.

The choice is yours

Yours Faithfully

Ian G. Andrews

we await developments .... but I fully expect him to miss this deadline and force us to take the whole dreary mess through the courts ....

5 . ME .. and my bloody back

well after suffering with back pain since my little reverse swan dive onto concrete 3 years ago and the doctors prescribing stronger nd stronger painkillers ( I take so many at the moment I rattle when I walk) .. things finally came to a head when I missed the Titans pre season meeting with back pain and folded up during a normal working week ... off to the quacks I went with Bunny in tow to get some action this time .... after reviewing my case the Doc agreed it was high time we got to the bottom of this (no pun intended)

Net result ... gonna get irradiated on Thursday (x-rays) and a full bank of blood work to discover what the problem is and if it can be fixed .... something needs to be done as if I cant work a full week then we gonna be in serious trouble money and mortgage wise ... hears hoping we find out that whatever is wrong is fixable .....

Movies and other rants

Hi folks .. its been a while aint it, the necessity of earning some money to keep our heads above water and other things has left me somewhat distracted ...

SO ... whats been goin on .... well the Titans Youth team are livin up to the Bulldog standard, having won their first game of the season they have now dropped 4 straight ... deja Vu is kicking in, allthough I have made my decision in the fact that I am stayin there for next season, The seniors team however are unbeaten to this point, but are looking wobbly, its only a matter of time unless they snap out of their complacency.

Still no progress on the garage front, but a more detailed post on that will follow when I can be bothered...

and now ... ITS MOVIE REVIEW TIME ... Barry Norman I'm not but I will give ya my honest unbiased opinion

The A Team
What a missed opportunity this movie is, it could have been so good, the plot is there (just) , the cast is generally well done, but the direction lets it down so badly, the entire movie shoots along hopping around the world like a rabid rabbit, hardly pausing to draw breath or give time for character development, with the end result that the characters appear 2 dimensional at best, the set pieces are OK but there is a feeling of been there, seen that before, that came over me while watching...

FAILED EFFORT .... 3/10 for trying

The Losers
Now this is how you do an action movie, its sort of a rip off of the A team concept mixed with a dash of Predator 1, the cast is top notch, my fear is that people will not give this movie a chance due to the above, well do yourselves a favour, skip the A team movie and go and see this instead, it is so superior in every way to the above movie, the direction is spot on the characters are given room to breathe and the audience is given time to catch its breath in between the action scenes ....

SUPERIOR ACTION FILM ....  8/10 would have been higher but for unoriginal concept

Clash of the Titans
Expected to hate this movie as the original was pretty uninspiring and oh look Liam Neeson is in this one as well phoning his part in, that bitch apart this is a very very good reworking of the story, I could say Pegasus was a white winged horse not black, accordin to legend, but that would be nitpicking for its own sake, top notch cast, great direction, nicely paced and the action sequences are nicely done ... best of this summers blockbusters so far by a large margin

VERY GOOD REWORKING ... 8/10 .. nice nod to the original with the clockwork owl :)

THE RUNAWAYS
The story of the first all female rock band in the U.S. this biopic pulls no punches in telling its story, not disguising the tale in any way, its all here, I had misgivings when I first heard the casting for this, but Stewart and Fanning are both excellent and believable in their roles, If I had a complaint to make about the movie it would be that it focuses too much on Currie and Jet, the other 3 girls come across as mere cyphers despite the fact that Lita Ford has become far and away the most successfull of the band since the split, however as the film is based on Curries' book I suppose this is inevitable, make no mistake this is a very good movie, it could have been better had they wished to push the ratings envelope a bit, the movie is very PG-13 when an 18 cert would have been a better movie all round, but the music is done well and the supporting cast around the band are excellent

SUPERIOR BIOPIC  8/10 ... both lead actresses stretch their craft away from their usual Candyfloss roles

Sunday 6 June 2010

ARRRRGGGHHH

I simply remain convinced that GOD

is FEMALE ... a bloke would have got
tired of kicking me by now and moved
onto another target

My card wallet was stolen from my pocket at work on Thursday  ... because I dont use my cards very often, the first I knew about it was when the bank rang me Saturday morning querying unusual activity on my account .... bastard got away with £200 that I will have to repay ....

Plus I had to spend my Saturday in the banks to get my cards cancelled and at the police station to report the crime and at work to do the same ...fun day that was ...

Jeez can I catch a break at all this year ???

Saturday 5 June 2010

Updates Updates ......

Ooh its been a while since I updated ya all ...so here goes

1. The Builder Situation

As expected ...he didn't respond to the letters and we have seen nothing of him since the last time ... so reluctantly its time to get the lawyers involved .. and since I have had to do this ..hes gonna pay and pay BIG for fucking us over ... more to follow Im sure

2. The Warrington Wolves

Currently having their best season ever in my memory and I cant afford to go to the games ...sucks but thats life I suppose ...

3. The Manchester Titans

The youth team is following in the finest Bulldog tradition by currently standing 1 - 2 after 3 games .. we play the Scum a week tomorrow in a must win game .. a win and the league blows wide open a loss and our season is effectively over .....

The Senior team are faring a little better you could say :) .. they have 3 wins out of 3 and I have been roped into photographing them (at least at the home games for now) as well

here we see the trailer tent set up as a hotdog stand at the Gateshead home game .. (remember the idea that the Bulldogs said would LOSE money and be a waste of time and effort) ... well the Titans went for the idea ... we made over £90 clear profit on the day (and the players ate free) so suck on that Naysayers

4. The Bolton Bulldogs

What can I say ... despite repeated requests for picture credits the players and staff at this organisation continue to ignore me ...mmm lets see, I take the pictures for them FOR NOTHING, i transfer the copyright to the club FOR NOTHING, and they cant even be bothered to give me a simple picture credit ?

well I have an answer to that .... sod em, I am in the process of severing all ties with this club

5. The new Temp contract

I hate home deliveries at the best of times ...its just not my scene having to deal with members of the general public on their own turf .. plus the days are rather long (11-12 hours) and the temperature over the past 2 weeks has been bouncing off the top end of the scale ...... but Moneys money and beggars cant be choosers so I'll stick with it for a while - trouble is Im very good at my job, and Im in real danger of being offered a permanent position there, I already have an assigned area, a "regular run" in courier parlance .. oh god please NOoooo :)

6. Santander and the mortgage situation

As a result of being screwed over by the DSS (see previous posts) we have fallen a little behind with the mortgage payments ..and last Friday received the following phonecall .. "this is an Important Phonecall for Mrs. Andrews or M. R. Andrews from Santander ..etc etc." .. so as I was expecting this I went through the situation with the advisor and explained what had gone on, and agreed to keep in touch with them on the matter .. this should give us some time ( I thought ) ... but NO ... on the following day the phone rang ..... "this is an Important .."  Oh for fucks sake ... OK so I explained the situation AGAIN to the advisor and said "I will let you know at the end of next week how things are going .... sounds reasonable right ? ... then we entered the Bank Holiday weekend ...come Tuesday morning however ... the phone rang AGAIN ..."this is an Important" .... oh FFS, I am not explaining it again so I hung up,

Since then regular as clockwork twice sometimes 3 times a day the phone rings ...

"this is an Important........"

I give up ... bloody banks are all the same, shock horror  - like I dint already know that, oh and their solution to my current financial crisis? .... have they stepped in and offered help ? ...if you think that then you obviously have no experience with the British banking system ... no their wonderfull solution to my crisis ..is to ring me 3 times a day every day to get me to explain the same thing over and over again ..oh and to add insult to injury ...charge me £40 (added to the mortgage account) ..EVERY MONTH ..while the crisis continues ....  yea this is the age of the caring sharing banks aint it ?

Fuckers

Ooh look a blog entry :) part 2

and on to other things ...

2. The garage build and the Post office

For those of you keeping score ...the Garage build has now been goin on for 7 months and is still no further along ...regular readers (lol like there's any of them) will also know from part 10 that a letter was despatched to the builder by Royal Mail Registered post on Tuesday April 20 2010 ....

The date today is Wednesday May 05 2010 .....AND IT STILL HASN'T ARRIVED !!!!!

can we rely on nothing in this god forsaken tax blighted country any more ? ...15 days for a registered mail letter to arrive ...sorry NOT arrive ...this is one of Royal Mails premium services (for which I might add they charge a HEFTY premium)

Now I wouldn't mind so much apart from 2 reasons ....

1. The letter was IMPORTANT and TIME CRITICAL hence the premium delivery usage

2.  It was going from Warrington ....to .....WARRINGTON ..Local postage and they cant even get that right

I give up .....

Ooh look a blog entry :) part 1

Its been a while folks so its time for y'all to get caught up

Part 1 ....Remember the Titans

I couldn't possibly write a better description of the first game than Alan the HC so his write up follows the background story ...

Having settled in with a training session or 2 the week leading up to the first game began with typical Bulldog efficiency ... because of the short notice involved, Verity the Titans Manager was unable to upgrade the coach to enable the whole team plus coaches to travel on same vehicle ..so this required some fast rejigging and some of us would have to go by car .... Alex one of the players decided to drive there .. so i decided to cadge a lift .. for 3 reasons ..1, I didn't fancy taking the bike all the way to Gateshead. 2, I didn't have the money to fuel the bike for said trip. and 3. it gave Alex a back up driver in case of injury .. so we made our arrangements and thought that was that ... Verity asked me for a pick up point in Bolton for the lads and I suggested Smithells or the Adsa just down the road , as all the Bulldog players knew where both were and could easily get to them ....

Then the Fun Began ...

On the Wednesday I get an email from V askin if i was taking the bike all the way to Gateshead ?
and one off TLJ ...informing all Bulldogs (hang on we're Titans now aint we) that the pick up point was Bolton Arena.......mmmm

Then V posts the lists of who is going in what vehicle to the forum ...and Alex is listed as goin on coach ?

OK ..something is VERY screwy here ... I contact Alex and yes he's still driving  so I contact V and offer to sort the mess for her as she is snowed under with Uni work .. she accepts gratefully and I send an email to all the ex dogs and post on Bulldog forum, that we need to sort it out quickly and V has asked me to do it ...... TLJ immediately does an end run around this and contacts V who tells him the same thing ...then he contacts me and says he'll sort it ..i say Fine, just let me know whats goin on so I can tell V that everything is set ... yeah that would happen ..2 more end runs around and 1 day later mess is finally sorted out .....

Typical Bulldogs ..make something easy so fucking diffucult ...ah well ...on to the match and our guest commentator Alan the HC of the Titan youth team

Manchester Titans Youth @ Gateshead Senators Youth Sunday 25th April 2010

Titans season opener was a 3 hour road trip up to sunny Gateshead where the weather and the hospitality never faltered. The Titans squad was boosted by several Bolton Bulldogs players, including GB Youth call-up LB Mike Ainscow who joined when they pulled out of the league just 2 weeks ago.

The Titans won the toss and elected to receive. The offense failed to pick up a first down and was forced to punt. Gateshead's offense took the ball and almost instantly broke a long run for an apparent touchdown only for it to be called back for a penalty. But they were moving the ball down the field when DL Alex Reilly stripped the ball and returned it all the way, only for a block in the back penalty to bring it back to Gateshead's 24 yard line.

Again the Titan's offense failed to move the ball and a penalty pushed them back to the 30 yard line where barefoot K Matt Nelan lined up to take a 47 yard FG attempt which Gateshead managed to block.

The Titans Defense held Gateshead on the next drive with SS Ben Stokes recovering a Senators fumble. The Titans Offense took over on their 27 yard line and after a run and a sack, an 11 yard completion to WR George Warren gave the Titans a first down to end the first quarter.

The 2nd Quarter saw Titan's QB Tom Hargreaves going backwards with sacks and penalties leading to an 4th & 40 which unsurprisingly saw the Titans punt. Gateshead's offense moved the ball but could not find the end-zone as Manchester's defense held firm.

Again Manchester's offense failed to pick up a first down and a short punt gave Gateshead the ball in good field position. Gateshead's misdirection play had the ball in the endzone but again it was called back because of a penalty but it was only a minor delay. Gateshead ran another misdirection play which resulted in the first score of the game. A successful 2 Point Conversion gave Gateshead a 8-0 lead.

Titans got the ball back just before the half-time whistle but were only able to gain 5 yards on a screen pass to WR Andy Mwailu.

Gateshead received the 3rd Quarter kick off but were unable to move the ball, so the Titans Offense took over around midfield and despite some good running from RBs Tom Higham and Matt Lomax, penalties pushed the Titans backwards and despite a 27 yard reception by Warren the Titans were forced to punt. Gateshead were unable to increase their lead and strong defense forced the Senators turn the ball over on downs on the Gateshead 32 yard line.

The Titans made a change at the beginning of the 4th Quarter bringing on former Bolton Bulldogs QB Matt Blinkhorn and he responded with a 23 yard pass to WR Dom Hayhurst to the Gateshead 9 yard line. Two plays later Blinkhorn found Hayhurst for a 14 yard TD. The 2 Point attempt was unsuccessful and the score-line remained 8-6 in favour of Gateshead.

The Titan's special teams responded immediately when Reilly forced a fumble on the ensuing kick-off that Ross Ayeyard recovered. Unfortunately the Titans were unable to capitalise and were forced to punt. Gateshead's offense started moving the ball down the field and made it into the Titan's red-zone when DL Nathan Beaumont made the play of the game when he stripped the ball from the Senator's RB and returned it 52 yards to the Senator's 40 yard line.

Blinkhorn looked deep for Hayhurst but under-threw him leading to an interception but a roughing the passer nullified the interception. An unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Gateshead moved the ball all the way down to the Senator's 15 yard line where Blinkhorn wasted no time hitting WR Christian Beaumont with the go-ahead score. The XP was blocked leaving the score at 12-8 to Manchester.

With a less than a minute to play Gateshead took to the air and a long pass completion moved the ball into Manchester territory but then LB Chi Lung “Gordon” Cheung recovered a fumble snap which allowed the Titans to run out the remaining time with 2 kneel-downs.

Final Score Manchester 12-8 Gateshead

MVPs –Offense - Matt Blinkhorn
Defense – Nathan Beaumont
Special Teams – Alex Reilly

Bulldogs and other frustrations (2)

Well ... since the last post a LOT has happened .. so here goes

First of all thanks to the apathy of the local youth and the shitty recruitment drive that was run ..the Bulldogs Varsity is no more
(at least for this Season .. The Lord Jim hopes to restart it in 2011)

SO .. the remaining players and half of the coaches moved over to The Manchester TITANS for this season, we were all apprehensive about this but the Titans organisation could not have made us feel more welcome, after only one full training session it feels like home for me and a couple of other people as well

There is the inevitable "getting to know you" hurdle to be crossed,  but so far with goodwill on both sides things seem to be going great, the players bonded well on the day which is good because the first competitive game is next Sunday away to Gateshead Senators ... lets hope for a good performance ..

Its gonna be a busy weekend for me as Team photographer as I have dual duty ...on the Saturday I am off to Burnley to photo the Bulldogs JV in Action, then Sunday in Gateshead to Photo the Titans Varsity (with special guest stars the Bulldog exiles)

bet I feel it on Monday :)

The Saga of the Garage build part 10

Well here we go ... Friday 16th March builder promised to turn up and didn't ..shock horror, and was unreachable on phone ..quell suprise, and not responding to texts ... OK now we turn up the heat ...

the following letter was dispatched today ...lets see if it provokes a response :)

Dear Sir,

Despite Several messages being left on your answerphone, you do not seem to be taking the promise of further action seriously so it is with regret that I write this letter which Serves as stage 1 of the Trading standards recommended procedure as outlined in the Supply of Goods and services act (1982)
The Guidance states that I must describe clearly and precisely what I wish from you, so to avoid misunderstanding here it is …

All I require of you is to finish the build as you promised within a reasonable time frame again as you promised and to be reachable on the phone when you need to be elsewhere.

I am required by the law to specify a “reasonable and achievable” timeframe for you to achieve this and as such, given that you said the job would only require 7 -10 more days to complete I am willing to allow you One Calendar Month from the date of this letter (ie 19 May 2010) to complete this build to our satisfaction.

Should you feel this is an unreasonably short time frame I refer you to the fact that you have given us deadlines on more than one occasion for this job to be completed and not only have you missed those deadlines, but you have yet to do 2 days consecutive work on this build this YEAR , in fact as of the time of writing this letter you have done precisely 3 DAYS work on this build this calendar year.
Should you feel I am in error in this ..here is the timeline

Jan 10 2010 .. Clearance received from council to resume build

Jan 22 2010 .. You stated that work would resume on the 3rd of February with 7 days tops to complete the build

February 3 2010 .. You arrived, dropped off a cement mixer and vanished for the rest of the day

February 4 2010 .. you informed us you had to attend a funeral

February 8 2010 .. “my van needs taxing I will be there tomorrow”

February 12 2010 .. finally managed to get you on phone, you admitted you were doing another job that would take 2 weeks to complete

February 26 2010 .. you said “the job has overrun I will be with you end of next week I promise”

March 4-5 2010 .. unreachable on phone

March 6 2010 .. After a long phone conversation with you the following was agreed

1.Once the job you were doing in Shrewsbury was completed, you would complete our build

2.You would arrange for all the remaining building materials needed to complete the job to be delivered here the next week.

3.You would attend the following Saturday with a piece of paper detailing when you intended to resume work on the build and an estimated completion date of same.

March 13 2010 .. You did turn up with the paper as requested and gave us a restart date of 24 March and an estimated completion date of April 1 2010.

March 26 2010 .. Day 1 of actual work ... you arrived and laid a course of breeze block on the back.

April 8 2010 .. Day 2 of actual work ..Laid brick work at the back promised to return the next day

April 14 2010 .. Day 3 of actual work you laid the entrance ramp and informed me you had been let down by your supplier on the lintel , but that it had been promised for Friday 16 April 2010

April 16 2010 .. you informed me over the phone that you would be round in a little while

Since then you have been unreachable by phone, not responding to repeated calls and text messages and no additional materials have arrived as you agreed to on the 6th of March.

I take this action reluctantly as I had hoped to settle this with goodwill on both sides as we have been more than understanding with your problems as you have reported them to us, but as you have repeatedly broken your word to me and are now unreachable by phone AGAIN I am left with little choice in the matter.

Should you fail to reply or respond to this letter within 14 days then I must inform you that the next step must be to either pursue the matter through the small claims court or arrange for another builder to complete the work and bill you directly as is our right under the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 (as amended)

I am sorry that it has come to this but you have now proven that your verbal assurances can not be believed and your written assurances must  be considered to be non binding as you have not kept them either, I urge you to take THIS letter seriously as it is your very LAST chance at settling this matter amicably.

Yours Faithfully

The Saga of the Garage build part 9

Like the Scarlet Pimpernel our elusive builder turns up when we least expect it !!

Here's a piccie of him working (sort of)

Day 2 of actual work this year !!  Day 16 of actual work on  the project ...

I'm hoping the build will be finished before my birthday but I'm not holding out any major hopes of this...

anyway ..he says he will be back tomorrow to carry on ....time will tell ...but at least the back is finished now and heres the photo evidence :)

The Digital Rights Bill and YOU !!

There is a new digital rights bill being rushed through parliament in the UK ...I REPEAT my earlier statement ..WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DOWNLOADING A TV EPISODE AND WATCHING IT AND RECORDING THE SAME EPISODE OFF TV ? .....answer for those of you having moral qualms about this is .....NOTHING !!!!

and for those of you who dont realise it - BOTH ARE ILLEGAL !! - yet DVD-Rs and VCRs and HD recorders are still for sale in shops ...can you say DOUBLE STANDARDS ?

sometimes the sheer hypocrisy of the media industry galls me ... lets take Sony for instance ..on the one hand they are the leaders in the anti-piracy movement through their record label Sony-BMG .. on the other side they are world leaders in DVD/HD production

so on the one hand they go after downloaders, while on the other make Billions of Pounds by producing the equipment that makes it possible....

DOUBLE STANDARDS MUCH ?

Bulldogs and other frustrations

For my troubles I work with a youth American football team ..

This started off relatively innocently when my stepson went to play for them and roped me in to give him a lift to training

From there it progressed to me becoming the official photographer for the team, and staying on when he became to old to play for them

Now here we are 3 years on and I am now ....

1. Official Photographer
2. Events Organiser
3. Merchandise organiser

It is job number 3 that is proving frustrating, trying to get funds to get this started from the club is like getting blood from a stone ... no strike that getting blood from a stone is easy compared to this :)

It is impossible to get the message across to the other coaches that in order to make money to fund the club, you first have to spend it - lol

After 3 weeks of toil I have secured some superbly cheap quotes for merchandise but the club will not release funds to order the goods .. they seem to be under the impression that we will only be selling to the players, this is despite the club website having a merchandise section and the fact I have already arranged a gazebo from which to sell the goods on game day ....which at this moment is useless because we have nothing to sell from it at the moment ...

Geez

The Saga of the Garage Build part 8

Miracles will never cease ....the builder actually turned up when he said he would and actually did some work

Progress ..... WHOOPEE

Maybe very soon we will be able to look out of the front window and not see this view :)

We can only hope :)

The Blessed DSS Part 2

How to start this post ...I could not be more annoyed with these people and their rules ...

A bit of background is in order I think so here goes ...

I Came out of work in June of last year and despite an average of 6 applications sent off every week since then have not succeeded in landing another job ...

Naturally I signed on ....to be caught in the DSS trap part 1 ....under the new rules you cannot work on agency more than 15 hours 59 mins in a week without having to sign off and then wait 8 weeks while they process the paperwork to sign you back on again when the temporary contract ends ....

So much for agency work then ...

Then the Missus was made redundant ... could it get any worse ?

Its the DSS ....of course it could

Under the new rules as a dependant on me she is not allowed to sign on in her own right so she is added to my claim ... another 8 weeks without money with bills piling up ...jeez

When paperwork finally sorted out ...I get an extra £5 per week for her being on the dole as well ...(remember this fact) ....however we were now entitled to help with the mortgage ...this took about 2 months to sort out but when the dust settled ... we had enough in benefits coming in to keep us just above the breadline....

BY now of course our savings are wiped out ...the money that we got from my industrial injury is gone (allthough we do have the garage to show for that ...if it ever gets finished) and I have had to sell my car to keep food on the table ..

Then  ...some good news (or so we thought) ... THE MISSUS LANDS A JOB

THEN when we declare this good news the DSS STRIKE !!!

Due to this good news ....

1. MY benefit is now stopped as the missus is earning more than the threshold (£120 per week whoopee)
2. The mortgage relief is stopped .....

So from breadline ..we are now in danger of going under completely ...what to do now I dont know ...the missus wages will not even cover the mortgage payment let alone that the other regular bills and  ....oh yeah WE STILL HAVE TO FUCKING EAT !!!!!!

and now the DSS want me to attend a job start interview on Tuesday ...

A Little Trip to Wales

Missus decides she needs wicker baskets and as we have only found one shop that sells em a little trip to Wales is in order ...

First a stop for Breakfast at THE best diner in North Wales.

The food is of a uniform High quality always, the place is clean and staff friendly

if ya wanna find it its right there on the A55 just after Chester ... ignore the Subway and Maccy D's on the same layby and give your tastebuds a treat

On way to Anglesey we decided to slip off the A55 and check out a craft shop just past Caerws - so glad we did epic old furniture at prices you wouldn't believe .. like a solid oak dining table big enough to seat 8 - with 6 chairs and all for less than £600 and many more ... a worthwhile stop :)

Then onto Anglesey to the place with the longest name in the world :)

and to the shop located at the station (the ONLY place we've seen wicker baskets for sale)

Unfortunately when we get there....

THEY DONT STOCK EM ANYMORE

But they do stock some nice models :) - added a Hurricane and a Mosquito to my collection :)

Feeling a little downcast at not gettin what we set out for, but glad of gettin out of Warrington for the day together we decided to check out Beaumaris and after tootling around the town centre for a while I took a wrong turning down a back street and BINGO a shop selling wicker baskets - YAY :)

Now all we need is somewhere to stop (not easy in Beaumaris) - nipped into a side alley and was amazed to see a van ... with 2 Warrington Wolves stickers on its back doors (what an omen)

Bunny gets her baskets ... we have a nice day out in Wales and the mighty wire stuff Bradford 33 - 8 to round off an almost perfect day :)

"Hi Ive been away in Shrewsbury on a job and didnt have my phone with me"

Who goes that far and doesnt carry their mobile ...and if his van is off the road.. how is he getting there ?

"oh really ...you said you would be with us the end of this week"

"yeah ...this job is taking a bit longer than i expected"

Followed by a long list of his woes ...which of course I deeply sympathised with

"so how long is this job gonna take and when can we expect you ?"

"10 days - 2 weeks at the most then I will be there to finish the job"

Yeah right

"I'll arrange for all the remaining materials to be delivered next week - that way you can see where your money went, and everything will be there ready for me to finish off the job"

"thats fine - that will buy you a week of grace with the wife and at least everything will be here"

"you have been more than patient with me, I wont let you down"  anyone else buying this line ?

"and I swear - once that job in Shrewsbury is done I will be with you" - Yeah Ive heard that before

"OK - heres my counter proposal ...1, by all means get all the materials delivered ....2, keep in touch and let me know when they are being delivered so I can be in to receive and sign for them ...3, next Saturday when you get up come down here for 10 minutes and bring with you the following ..... A piece of paper with your restart of work date, estimated finish date and a record that the job is fully paid for and sign it .......bring that and we are golden"

there is a pause at the other end ....

"OK thats fair I suppose - I'll see you next Saturday"

"and I will hear from you during the week regarding the deliveries ?"

"yep - no problem"

"and you will have your phone with you and answer me back promptly ?"

"OK - thats fair"

"fine - I'll talk to you next week and see you next Saturday then ?"

"OK no problem"

Amazing what the threat of bringing in the heavys will do aint it ? :D :D

The Southampton trip 23 and 24 Feb 2010

My stepson decides he wants to check out Southampton Solent Uni so off we trot on the bIke in February ...brrr

first part of the trip cold but ok was down to Bristol to stop over night at a friends ...

the fazer got a nice warm alarmed garage to sleep in and some company :)

Then off to Southampton ...google maps said 60 miles ..yeah right actual mileage 124 ...and after a bit of messin' about in southampton town centre we finally located the uni ...

heres the fazer chillin with the students :)

Then came the nightmare of the trip homeward ...all was fine until Oxford when the heavens opened .....

and we ran into rush hour traffic on the M42

Between spray and traffic got very frustrating ...stopped at Hilton park services to dry off and post a fb update ..(modern times eh....) cleaned visor and we set off into the night ...within 2 miles visibility through visor was zero ... did usual bikers trick, pick a fast car and follow its taillights , this soon got us under the lights at Lymm, which resulted in a very quick blast over Thelwall viaduct and home
.

Bike screaming for chain lube at the end, but never missed a beat ...Yamaha reliability

and unlike its rider...it started first push of the button this morniing ..:)
Summary

Total Trip Mileage  475

Weds Mileage  313

3 tanks of fuel @£14

2 Burger meals each (cost more than fuel did !!)

and ...

Winter Biking is for the young or very foolish ...:)

Or Idiots like me who had no choice

The Saga of the Garage build part 4

After much messing around with the council planning dept. courtesy of the Owd git across the road, we got the go ahead to carry in the build  on January 10 ... with snow on the ground we rang the builder and told him he could carry on when he was ready and the weather cleared ...

when the snow finally cleared in mid January we called the builder to see when he would be coming back to finish the build ..he said I'm just finishing another job and then I'll be there ...we said fine thats OK

On January 22nd we got the builder around and politely enquired when the build was to resume

he said "I will be there 3rd of February"

and how long to finish the build ?

"7 days tops"  (thats Feb 10 for those of you keeping count)

I say "thats fine, and to allow for weather you can have 10 days - how does that sound?"

"Oh thats great - no problems at all then "

skip forward to February 3 ...

Builder TURNS UP (whoopee !!) drops off his cement mixer and says "I'm just gonna go pick up some materials"  ....then promptly vanishes for the rest of the day

Feb 4th ... No builder ...rang hiim  "Ive got to go to a funeral" - Oh OK thats fine see you tomorrow then

Feb 5th ... NO builder ..no answer on his phone

Feb 6 & 7 (weekend)  No builder

Monday Feb 8  ...No builder ...rang him ... "I was the worse for wear after the funeral Thursday and my van needs to be taxed today" .....GRRRR...Fine we'll see you tomorrow then ?

"oh for sure"

Tuesday February 9  - No builder ..message to his answer phone... "where are you and what is the excuse this time ?"
